But my google AI said it’s only for new devices, won’t replace old? Is this in these articles? Do we need to block updates???

I’m a s/w noob, but it would seem you couldn’t really replace a full OS with a completely new OS. . one has to drive! ;o)

If Amazon turns off “Developers Options” then that would lock up the stick from any side loading, correct?

Yes. From what I understand the new OS will not have the ability for anyone to enable the developer options.

I’m sure Bezos and Amazon get plenty of pressure from the MPAA, NAB, and RIAA. So if they demonstrate an effort to thwart sideloading and piracy, I’m sure they will gain favoritism from those outfits.

That might be true, teehar.
But in addition, it might be that Amazon gets a taste out of each sub that is sold through one of its devices

Yes let’s hope the powers at be are already in the process of cracking Vega for side loading

If this happens, then I shall say goodbye to the Firestick and move on.

As upsetting as it is I feel like Amazon is getting a lot of pressure from copyright enforcement agencies to make this change. For “verified” streaming I honestly prefer Roku or using my PS5 or WebOS for legit streaming apps. Sideloading my VPN and questionable streaming apps and having a simple cheap easy way to get that “jailbroken” experience on my TV with a device thats easily obtainable and trusted without malware could only be done with the FireStick until Google TV/ Android TV devices became more affordable and mainstream. Thats really the only use i ever had for it. But now we have far more legit options. Hell some of the apps we associate the FireStick for more are available even on Apple TV/ Tizen/WebOS now ( Maybe should consider getting a VPN router for the devices that dont support the VPN natively). On top of this i noticed alot of Android based apps support super old versions of Android going all the way back to Kit Kit (4.4). Which came out over 10 years ago. Thus i doubt the current and older firestick models are going to be truly obsolete for a while depending on our use cases.
I assume alot of peoples frustrations will come from amazon simply taking away peoples freedom and power over their devices regardless of what you do with yours but im just implying it may notbe the end of the world for everyone. We can all just hope a new Shield TV comes out this year

I don’t see Nvidia making another android gaming console tbh because I don’t think there is a market for it.
I haven’t used a certified device in over 15 years and never had any issues.

Does anyone know if the current Amazon devices are going to all be converted to their new os? Or will they be staying on Android?

Devices already in use or manufactured will not change to Vega. Only the new devices coming out in 2026 I suspect.

They can’t because Amazon is currently re-coding apps for Vega. So if they forced an upgrade nothing would work. Law suites would ensure.
Vega is Linux based and Fire is Android base . They aren’t cross compatible

I think you might have misunderstood what I said which might have been ineloquent.
Amazon is re-coding existing app so that they will work on Vega.
If Amazon replaced the Android OS on existing device the currently installed apps would fail, they aren’t going to do that.
Or, maybe you didn’t mean to directly respond to me?
Either way you’re right Vega and Android won’t be compatible though both are Linux based.

I’m not a tech person by far, but you can find the MAC number in the My Fire TV section in the network settings, and your provider can use that. I read and learn a lot on this site. You can search for most things and find answers. Welcome to a good source of info.
