Understood. The last time I used it was last July, I plugged it into the active port that the DVD in the room was connected to, located the network and signed right in. There was no portal but true, most will have a welcome for the guest.

DVD or HDMI? I also remember over the last couple of years that there was one motel where I couldn’t crack the code and get the motel internet to work with my device. Or maybe I was just haggard and not willing to go to further steps.

Well as mentioned I used the active port, meaning HDMI that the DVD in the room was connected to. Sorry if it was misunderstood.

Hopefully you followed
If you are still having issues - unplug the box and reconnect after a couple of minutes, check date and time setting is correct.

I’m just not used to having a DVD player in a motel room. Maybe that’s what you get at the Ritz Carlton – I wouldn’t know lol No reason to apologize and thanks for the explanation.

That made me chucle. It’s not about the dvd at all, it was just an open HDMI port with a cord going to a dvd that I was able to connect directly to my device not even using my own cord. I just unplugged it and used that one,.

Candlewood Suites, had a DVD player in every room, had a library of DVDs at the front desk, all at no cost. Haven’t stayed in one for a few years now but my guess, no more.
I travelled to instruct Solaris,Linux, and other courses all over the country, I liked Candlewood because they had a full kitchen and I hated eating in restaurants all the time. Additionally 90% had the same layout.

When I was stuck in a city for more than a couple of day traveling for work, I did stay in a “suite” type motel. In Des Moines I think. It was a nice homey contrast to a typical motel for the reasons you stated (also couldn’t stand eating out all the time) and I remember there was a well-attended free happy hour with beer and hotdogs or something out by the pool. These days, we are traveling through and moteling it for one night hoping to get somewhere to visit family. And then usually staying at a destination motel for 4-5 days – where the streaming device comes in really handy.

Welcome to TP @Sbj5969!!
Do a search using the Magnifying Glass icon and you should find what you are looking for.
If you already have the Onn 4k Pro set up with your google account you should be able to get Tivimate in the Apps section at the top. Not sure what the Apollo app is.
Also if you were looking for Downloader to get to the Troypoint Toolbox that should be in the apps section as well.

I thought I read on here somewhere that the Onn boxes couldn’t be used in Canada?

You can use it anywhere but the initial setup has to be done with the device connected to a VPN using a US server
At the time I bought them, after watching Troy’s review, I went to New Brunswick to visit family, and bought a couple of them at Walmart in Calais, Maine. Even with the difference in the dollar, it was much cheaper than they would have been in Canada. I had no trouble setting them up, and they work very well.
They absolutely can be used in Canada. I am and I know others. The possible problem was it could be geolocked on setup unlike the earlier 4k one. Some people experienced that so I didn’t want to tempt fate.. I used a US VPN hotspot on my pc to set it up and after that there has been no problem.
I got mine on sale for $39.99 USD
Me too, ordered it as soon as I saw that sale posted here on Troypoint a few months ago.

Seriously, if you are starting out in this hobby why would you get anything else? Or as a veteran of the hobby. I have a shoebox full of old fire sticks, cubes, and MeCool and I suddenly realized I’m now using all ONN devices. They just work, and as someone that doesn’t record much, the 4k and the Pro have enough storage.

Hey my friend, I don’t know if you wanted to reply to my message but you did. The message doesn’t seem inline with mine so ..
For those of you that don’t know, don’t pick the black reply icon unless you are replying to that comment by that person, to add a new comment, select the blue reply icon at the bottom of the thread… I’m just pointing this out for every one.
When you reply to a comment it sends the reply to that person. My guess is @Miki has explained this before, now he will get a message too.
This was just a public service announcement.
